Dash cancel
The general case. Every other technique here is a version of it.
DifficultyAn evening
What it does
The recovery at the end of a dash can be replaced by almost anything else — a slash, a shot, a jump, another dash. Learning this one thing is what separates moving around a GunZ map from playing GunZ, and every technique on this page is a specific application of it.
Why it exists in the code
The original state machine lets a new action take over an animation that is still playing, rather than queuing it until the animation ends. That single permissive rule is the root of K-Style, and it is the rule that a modern refactor would tidy away first.
This behaviour is preserved deliberately. It is not on a list of things to fix.
The mistake everyone makes first
Waiting to see the dash finish. If you can see the recovery, you have already lost the window. The cancel is an input made on rhythm, not a reaction to something on screen.
