Slash shot

Swing, switch, fire — both land, in less time than either should take.

DifficultyA few weeks

What it does

The sword damage lands, and the shot arrives before the slash recovery would normally let you do anything. Against an opponent who has just committed to a dodge, the two hits land close enough together that there is no window to react between them.

Why it exists in the code

Switching weapons puts the character into a new animation state, and doing that mid-slash abandons the rest of the slash rather than queuing behind it. The weapon-switch delay is a real cost, but it is shorter than the slash recovery it replaces, so the trade is worth taking.

This behaviour is preserved deliberately. It is not on a list of things to fix.

The mistake everyone makes first

Switching too late. Once the slash recovery has finished on its own there is nothing left to cancel, and you have simply swapped weapons slowly. The window opens as the swing connects, not after it.
